Ronald Thomas Bross
Ronald Thomas Bross, 65, of Liberty, Mo., passed away April 23, 2013. Ron was born January 3, 1948 to Nick and Adelia (Dee) Meyers Bross in Kansas City, Mo.
Ron graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, Mo., in 1966. In 1970 Ron graduated from CMSU with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After graduation, he taught Junior High Science. In 1973 Ron began his nearly 40 year career in the funeral business working for Sweeny Phillips in Warrensburg. He later moved to Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty, Mo. Eventually, Ron was named manager at Church Archer Pasley and served in that capacity for many years.
Ron loved his work. He worked hard helping families though the most difficult times. It was his love of helping families and funeral work that prompted Ron to want to own his own funeral home. In 2005, Ron and his business partner, Nevin Spidle, had the opportunity to own Fry Funeral Home in Kearney and Prichard Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. The funeral homes became Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home and Bross & Spidle Funeral Home. At last, Ron’s dream was fulfilled ... to own and operate a funeral home serving families with care and compassion. Ron also worked mentoring many new Funeral Directors. He loved teaching his craft. In 2009, Ron suffered a stroke which left him unable to work at the funeral home. This, however, did not stop Ron from participating as much as possible. He talked to Nevin almost daily. His concern for the business and families never stopped.
As well as a business owner, Ron was an active community member. He served on the Liberty School Board from 1991-2000, Kearney, Liberty, and Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce, and Kearney and Liberty Rotary Clubs. Ron was also a devout Catholic and belonged to St. James Catholic Church in Liberty, Mo.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Nick Bross, and brother, Michael Bross.
Survivors include Ron’s mother, Adelia (Dee) Bross; wife, Karen Bross; son, David and Tawni Bross; son, Mark and Brittany Bross; sister, Sharon and Jeff Jennings; two grandchildren, Daniel and Tara Bross; as well as nieces and nephews. Ron also leaves countless friends and colleagues who will miss him greatly.
Most importantly, Ron was a man devoted to his wife, sons, and grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty, Mo., Friday, April 26, 2013. Funeral mass will be Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10 a.m., also at the church. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James Soup Kitchen or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Kearney, Mo.
